2019 Visit by Ravishankar Bhooplapur to KLE Belgaum

“Belagavi: Here is a good news for children below 12, ailing with heart related problems but doesn’t fit into any government schemes despite a weaker financial background. Gift of Life scheme of the Rotary Foundation has come as a boon for such families, remained helpless to treat their children.

In the joint venture of Rotary Foundation and KLES Dr Prabhakar Kore Hospital, the Gift of Life scheme was launched in Belagavi on Thursday, in presence of Rtn. Ravi Bhopalapur, a global coordinator of the scheme. Ravi Bhopalapur is a businessman from Dharwad, settled in America. Being an Indian, he is struggling to bring more and more benefits of the scheme to India.

Addressing the media persons, Rtn. Chaitanya Kulkarni, local coordinator of the scheme, said the Rotary International Dist.3170 India (Host District) and Rotary International Dist.7255 USA with the help of host club Rotary Club of Belgaum South and international partner club Rotary Club of Gold Coast Lake Success USA with the help of Rotary Foundation of Rotary International is conducting this grant. This year, there is a plan to conduct 20 heart surgeries for children at cooperating organization KLES Hospital, Kulkarni said.

Ravi Bhopalapur said his target is to conduct 100 surgeries this year in KLE Hospital and one surgery per day in future. Presently, in Karnataka, there are only two units one in Bengaluru and second in Belagavi. KLE hospital charges only on surgery and medicines while other services including nursing and room rent will be free. So far, 6000 surgeries have been conducted in India. Bhopalapur thanked Dr Prabhakar Kore for joining hands with Gift of Life project and giving services in minimum cost.

KLE hospital in association with Rotary Club of Belgaum South and RID 3170 proposed to conduct 12 screening camps to identify the beneficiaries in North-Karnataka, South Maharashtra and Goa. There will be a five member screening committee to select beneficiaries by inspecting the socio-economic background of the family.”
